Translation

I translate from Spanish into English, my mother tongue. I have been translating since university, where I completed a joint honours degree in Modern European Languages. I have been awarded the CertTrans qualification by the Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK).

With experience in human translation, post machine translation editing and proof-reading (general, business and legal), I offer a complete service to my clients.

Editing

I check, edit, revise and localise all texts, including those that have been machine translated or that need a second human translator to ensure text quality. I correct both errors of translation and omission, ensuring that texts are not only accurate but flow naturally.

Proofreading

I proofread and correct all types of documentation and texts, ensuring spelling, grammar, capitalisation, spacing and formatting are correct and consistent. I carry out sense-checks and conduct any necessary research in order to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the text.  Finally, I ensure that the text reflects the style and tone of the original text.

I am a Spanish to English translator, and general and legal proofreader who moved into translation and proofreading after practising as a UK qualified lawyer for almost a decade. 

 

After completing my legal training in project finance, commercial litigation and corporate mergers and acquisitions, I became a project finance lawyer in the London and Singapore offices of a large US firm. I later expanded my legal experience to the fields of anti human-trafficking, data privacy and in-house commercial law.  My LLM was in the fields of intellectual property and non-dispute resolution.

 

At my US firm, I was rigorously trained to proofread and sense-check long and detailed contracts and other legal and business documentation in both UK and US English.  I developed a high level of attention-to-detail through daily drafting and proofreading of contracts, emails, press-releases, and client-correspondence.  From this point onwards, I continued developing my language and proofreading skills daily.

 

I enjoyed law but I wanted to teach and return to my initial passion - languages.  In 2020 I became an English teacher while simultaneously studying Spanish with translation.  I mostly taught lawyers, doctors and business executives; this furthered reinforced my experience of English language, grammar usage and  technical and legal English.

I proofread and correct all kinds of documentation and texts, ensuring spelling, grammar, capitalisation, spacing and formatting are correct and consistent. I also carry out sense-checks and conduct necessary research in order to ensure text accuracy and integrity.  Finally, I make sure that the text is as close to the author's original intended style and tone as possible.  I translate and proofread contracts, pre-translated texts, blogs and websites, articles and educational material.
